Washington’s pro day this year had a more subdued vibe compared to last year’s buzz, but it still held significant meaning for the players looking to prove themselves. Unlike the 2024 pro day, which saw 13 players attend the NFL combine, only linebacker Carson Bruener was invited this time, leaving the remaining departing players with their one chance to showcase their skills in front of NFL scouts.
One standout of the day was defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez, who impressed with his performance in the drills and physical testing. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman completed an impressive 34 repetitions on the bench press, a mark that would have placed him at the top of the combine leaderboard. Additionally, Valdez clocked an unofficial 4.9-second 40-yard dash, putting him among the fastest defensive tackles in the draft class.
Valdez’s journey to the NFL has been far from typical. As an unranked recruit from Monte Vista High in Spring Valley, California, he initially took an offer from Montana State and turned into a standout player.

After transferring to Washington for his final season, he started all 13 games and earned an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection for his efforts. Despite a minor elbow injury, Valdez totaled 49 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks in 2024.
Reflecting on his career, Valdez expressed gratitude for his time at both Montana State and Washington. He’s now focused on taking the next step toward the NFL. “I’m a guy that’s prepared,” Valdez said. “I’m ready to compete, and I’m excited for this opportunity. If they get me, they’re going to get a guy that’s determined and ready to work.”
Valdez’s pro day performance is just the latest chapter in a journey that has taken him through different challenges and programs, all with the goal of making it to the next level. As he looks to secure a spot with an NFL team, the next few weeks will be crucial in deciding where his future lies.
