The New York Giants hold the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and it’s clear they need to address the quarterback position this offseason. However, the challenge lies in the fact that there are only two standout quarterbacks in this draft class, and with the Giants holding the third pick, the situation becomes tricky.
Instead, the Giants have been exploring free agency options, with links to quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Neither of these players is a long-term solution, but they could serve as a bridge quarterback. With the team needing someone to lead the offense this year, they can’t afford to be left without a quarterback when the offseason decisions are made.
Compounding this is Rodgers’ tendency to take his time with decisions, which is something the Giants simply can’t afford right now.
ESPN’s Field Yates reported that if Shedeur Sanders—one of the top two quarterbacks in the draft—falls to third overall, the Giants wouldn’t hesitate to select him. Yates pointed out that with a head coach and GM likely on the hot seat, the Giants would not pass up on Sanders if he’s available and they don’t have a solid veteran option like Wilson or Rodgers.

It wouldn’t be shocking if the Giants pursued Sanders, but Yates added an interesting point: If they sign Rodgers or Wilson, the team might still want to draft a quarterback. Since any contract with one of these veterans is expected to be short-term, selecting a young quarterback like Sanders could allow him to sit and learn behind them for a year.
This offseason has not been kind to teams in need of a quarterback, and the Giants are feeling the effects. It seems likely they’ll either sign Rodgers or Wilson, hope Sanders falls to them, or move up in the draft to secure Cam Ward.
If Sanders is their pick, there’s a lot of potential. In two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes, he passed for over 7,300 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Despite a poor offensive line during his first year and a half, he still impressed with his play. If the Giants land Sanders, it would be hard to complain about the outcome.
