Former South Carolina Gamecock Xavier Legette has been participating in training camp with the Carolina Panthers after being selected in the first round of this year’s draft. The Panthers aimed to enhance their offensive arsenal for quarterback Bryce Young and chose Legette to fulfill this need. However, on Sunday, Legette left the practice field due to a lower leg injury. Despite this setback, he is expected to return soon.
Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday evening that X-Rays for Legette were negative, and an MRI will be conducted to ensure the rookie wide receiver is fully healthy for his return. Earlier this year, Legette missed time due to a hamstring injury, but this current lower body injury is unrelated.
Despite his injury, Legette has impressed the Panthers during training camp. He is anticipated to be an immediate contributor this season, following a stellar end to his college career in 2023. Last season, Legette recorded 71 receptions, 1,255 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns, outperforming the next leading receiver for the Gamecocks by over 900 receiving yards. Known for carrying the load on offense, Legette might play a similar pivotal role for the Panthers this season.
