Breaking: Mel Kiper, Confirm The New York Giants Lands Another Top Talented Player, QB combo

Mel Kiper and Field Yates have released a new three-round mock draft that offers a fresh perspective on what the New York Giants might do in the 2025 NFL Draft. Here’s a breakdown of their picks and some commentary.

Round 1 (Pick No. 3) — Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State
This selection comes from Field Yates, who argues that Carter, the second-ranked player on his board, is simply too talented for the Giants to pass up—even with their quarterback situation unresolved. Yates believes New York could address the QB need on Day 2 if they’re not convinced by Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. While the Giants already have a solid pass-rushing group, adding Carter, who recorded 12 sacks in 2024, would elevate it further.

Analysis:
Most experts agree that Carter is a logical pick for the Giants at No. 3. That said, Shedeur Sanders’ upcoming private workout with the team has reignited buzz that the quarterback could be in play. If they skip Sanders here, securing a franchise quarterback later becomes trickier. Still, with pressure mounting on GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, taking a plug-and-play defensive standout like Carter could be a smart move.

Round 2 (Pick No. 34) — Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville
This is Mel Kiper’s choice. With Sanders going at No. 9 to the Saints and the Browns trading up to block the Giants from landing Jaxson Dart, Kiper has them selecting Shough. The Louisville quarterback brings experience, a strong arm, and threw 29 touchdowns last season. He’d get a chance to develop behind veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.

Analysis:
Jalen Milroe was another option here, though he’s a much bigger risk-reward pick. Shough may not have Milroe’s ceiling, but he’s seen as a steadier option. Some analysts even consider Shough’s 2024 tape the second-best among QBs, behind Cameron Ward. Taking Shough here doesn’t rule out a first-round quarterback pick in 2026, should the right opportunity arise.

Round 3 (Pick No. 65) — Tate Ratledge, G, Georgia
Another Yates pick. He emphasizes the need for better protection, regardless of who’s under center. Ratledge is praised for his footwork and toughness.

Analysis:
This pick addresses a key need. Ratledge is considered a reliable, no-frills prospect who could challenge for a starting job right away.

Round 3 (Pick No. 99) — Omarr Norman-Lott, DT, Tennessee
Also from Yates. He points out that while Dexter Lawrence II anchors the defensive interior, the Giants need depth. Norman-Lott has 9.5 sacks over the past two seasons and could contribute immediately in the rotation.

Analysis:
A sensible pick given the team’s thin depth at defensive tackle. While Norman-Lott may not be a consensus top-tier prospect, the Giants need young talent at the position, and he could fill that void effectively.
