Abdi Bashir, a 6-foot-7 sophomore guard from Omaha, Nebraska, has officially committed to join the Kansas State Wildcats.
Last season, Bashir made a significant impact at Monmouth, averaging 20.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 33 minutes per game. He shot 38% from beyond the arc and earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team.
“I’m super excited,” Bashir shared with The Wichita Eagle. “It’s one of the best leagues in college basketball, and I’m getting ready for it. I know it’s a physical league, so I’m working hard to add weight and prepare to play my best basketball. I haven’t reached my peak yet, and I’m looking forward to showing Kansas State fans what I can do at the next level.”

Bashir’s addition comes at a critical time for K-State, particularly after sharpshooter Brendan Hausen entered the transfer portal. Known for his scoring ability, Bashir has proven he can perform under pressure, including a remarkable 38-point game against Rutgers, where he hit 10-of-17 three-pointers. He averaged over 10 three-point attempts per game last season.
A former unranked high school recruit, Bashir’s success has caught the attention of several top programs, including Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, and Kentucky. His brother also committed to Auburn in February. Bashir is the second player from the transfer portal to join the Wildcats this offseason, following 6-foot-8 forward Tyreek Smith from Memphis.
After a 16-17 finish last season and missing the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row, K-State is hoping Bashir’s shooting and scoring prowess will help lead them to a stronger performance in the upcoming season.
