MAJOR BREAKING: Peyton Marshall’s Shocking Departure: Missouri Big Man Enters Transfer Portal

Missouri Tigers freshman center Peyton Marshall has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, becoming the latest player to leave head coach Dennis Gates’ program during a busy offseason reshuffle. The announcement came Sunday afternoon, marking a notable departure from a roster undergoing significant changes ahead of the 2025–26 season.

Marshall, a former four-star recruit out of Kell High School in Georgia, committed to Mizzou with high expectations. Known for his size and interior presence, the 7-foot, 300-pound center was seen as a long-term development piece for the Tigers. However, his freshman year saw limited opportunities, appearing in just 22 games and averaging a little over 4 minutes per contest.

While Marshall’s on-court impact was modest—he averaged under 1 point and 1 rebound per game—his potential remained a point of intrigue for many within the program. With the Tigers adding frontcourt talent through the transfer portal, including Arizona State transfer Shawn Phillips Jr., playing time would have been even more scarce for Marshall in his sophomore season.

The decision to transfer doesn’t come as a total surprise, as Marshall was one of several young players expected to evaluate their roles amid Missouri’s shifting roster. Head coach Dennis Gates has been aggressive in retooling the team, bringing in experienced players to compete immediately and help the Tigers contend in the SEC.

For Marshall, the move provides an opportunity to find a better fit—perhaps a program where he can earn more playing time and continue his development on the court. Despite the lack of statistical impact in his first year, he remains a player with upside, particularly for teams in need of size and interior depth.

As for Missouri, Marshall’s departure frees up a scholarship spot and adds further clarity to the Tigers’ roster heading into the offseason. With multiple incoming transfers and commitments already announced, the coaching staff appears focused on creating a competitive and experienced squad ready to make a stronger push in 2025–26.
