Off to a strong 14-10 start and sitting atop the NL Central, the Chicago Cubs have made a move to strengthen their pitching staff.
As reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs have acquired veteran left-hander Drew Pomeranz from the Seattle Mariners.
The 36-year-old had been pitching for Seattle’s Triple-A team, the Tacoma Rainiers, where he posted a 4.66 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 9.2 innings across nine appearances this season.

Pomeranz has had a well-traveled MLB career, previously pitching for the Rockies (2011–13), Athletics (2014–15), Padres (2016, 2020–21), Red Sox (2016–18), Giants (2019), and Brewers (2019).
His standout year came in 2016, earning him an All-Star nod during a season split between San Diego and Boston. He was also part of the Red Sox’s 2018 World Series championship team.
The Cubs have a day off Monday before hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:40 p.m.
