This transition hasn’t been easy for Devers, as he’s currently hitting just .202 with two home runs in 94 at-bats this season. Currently, the Cubs don’t have a clear-cut starter at third base after demoting top prospect Matt Shaw to Triple-A Iowa. Veterans like Justin Turner, Jon Berti, Gage Workman, and Vidal Brujan have been filling the gap, but none have solidified the position. Trading for Devers would give the Cubs a reliable everyday third baseman and bolster their already impressive offense. However, this move may only be temporary, as Shaw remains the Cubs’ third baseman of the future.
Acquiring Devers would undoubtedly require the Cubs to give up significant assets, including both experienced MLB players and top prospects, possibly even Shaw.
