Breaking: Yankees Keyman Announces Departure From The Team

The 2024 season hasn’t gone as planned for J.D. Davis, who is on the verge of joining his third major league team this year. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the 31-year-old corner infielder is expected to sign with the Baltimore Orioles following his release from the New York Yankees on August 2.

The Yankees had only recently acquired Davis from the Oakland Athletics on June 23, 2024, trading Jordan Groshans to add him as infield depth due to injury issues. However, Davis saw limited action with New York, appearing in just seven games and logging 22 plate appearances, during which he struggled mightily, hitting only .105/.227/.158 before being released.

The Yankees certainly wouldn’t want to see J.D. Davis find success with the Orioles, especially considering New York is currently leading the AL East by just half a game over Baltimore. With infielders Jordan Westburg and Jorge Mateo on the injured list, the Orioles needed to bolster their infield depth, and Davis could provide that, along with some potential power.

Can J.D. Davis revive his career with the Orioles? Davis has always shown power, dating back to his time with the New York Mets. In 2019, he hit 22 home runs, and his power has been a key part of his value, despite his defensive shortcomings.
