Jeremy Swayman has solidified his position as one of the top goaltenders in the National League in recent years. The Bruins made a decisive move earlier this summer by trading Linus Ullmark to Ottawa, effectively clearing the way for Swayman to claim the #1 goaltending role in Boston. However, there’s a catch: Swayman remains unsigned for the upcoming season, and the Bruins might find themselves needing to secure his contract.
According to Dan Rosen of NHL.com, Swayman could command up to $9 million annually in his next contract. The Bruins currently have $8,573,334 in cap space, with only Swayman left to sign.
If Swayman agrees to a salary below $8.5 million per season, there shouldn’t be any issues. But if he pushes for his full market value, GM Don Sweeney will need to get creative.
Swayman, at just 25, has a compelling case for the Bruins to invest in him. His performance last season speaks volumes, particularly in the playoffs:
- Regular season: 25-10-8 record, 2.53 GAA, and a .916 save percentage
- Playoffs: 6-5-1 record, 2.15 GAA, and a .933 save percentage
The key question now is whether Don Sweeney is willing to offer Swayman a substantial contract. With many prime years still ahead of him and David Pastrnak secured until the 2030-2031 season, locking in Swayman could be a smart move.
